EPIC Youth Council

Youth campaigners and advocates campaigning for change

The EPIC Youth Council is made up of young people with care-experience who use their voices to influence change.

Members share their lived experience to help improve policies, services and outcomes for children and young people in care, both now and in the future.

What do Youth Council members do?

Members share their lived experience to help improve policies, services and outcomes for children and young people in care, both now and in the future.

Youth Council members:

  • Help raise awareness of the realities of growing up in care and transitioning to adulthood
  • Share their experiences and views to help shape EPIC’s work and priorities
  • Advise national stakeholders and policymakers on issues affecting young people in care and aftercare
  • Work together on campaigns, consultations and projects that matter to them and aim to create positive change
  • Represent the wider care community at meetings, events and forums

Support and development

Members are supported by EPIC’s Youth Engagement and Participation team throughout their time on the Council.

Being part of the Youth Council is also a chance to build confidence, develop new skills, and use your voice by sharing your experiences or views to help create change, while connecting with other young people who share similar experiences.

Members may also have opportunities to learn through meetings, events, or guest speakers.
