Digital Media Officer (Full time 10-month fixed-term contract)

Dublin or Limerick Office

Job Purpose

EPIC is seeking a skilled and creative Digital Media Officer to progress our public engagement strategy in collaboration with EPIC staff and Youth Council members.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Communications Manager to develop engaging visual content for EPIC’s digital channels and communications resources. The role involves graphic design, producing short animations, social media scheduling, and analysing metrics to improve engagement and reach, as well unique opportunities to work on bespoke projects including a review and refresh of EPIC’s brand and organisational templates, and a digital “Know Your Rights in Care” campaign for children and young people in care.

Key Responsibilities

Digital

  • Create high-impact visual content for EPIC’s digital channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn) and communications outputs (reports and publications) that effectively communicate EPIC’s values, vision and mission, key work areas, and impact.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of social media campaigns for diverse audience groups, including pitching new ideas.
  • Support the Communications Manager with report design templates, graphics, and charts for a variety of publications as required.
  • Schedule EPIC’s reoccurring, evergreen digital content calendar across all channels
  • Monitor and analyse social media metrics to identify areas for improvement and analyse EPIC’s community trends to inform strategic planning and creative outputs.

Projects

  • Review and refresh EPIC’s brand and associated branded templates, and work with the Communications Manager to develop new branding guidelines for external contractors.
  • Ensure accessibility guidelines are embedded in EPIC’s communications outputs by working with the Communications Manager to develop an Accessibility Policy.
  • Create the visual components for a digital “Know Your Rights in Care” campaign that will be developed with members of EPIC’s Care Community and Youth Council.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Assist with the creation and dissemination of “EPIC News” – a quarterly mailout.
    • Write, edit, and proof content for EPIC’s website and digital channels.
    • Support the planning and delivery of EPIC ’s annual programme of events including Pride, the touring Embrace our Stories photography Exhibition, Care Day 24, and other EPIC launches or events as required.
    • Contribute to press activities as required (press packs, media releases etc).
    • Attend internal regular meetings and provide reports and information as required.
    • Participate actively in team, planning and staff meetings as required to function effectively within the organisation.
    • Participate in regular supervision with your line manager.
    • Be vigilant to any child protection risks, health and safety risks and data protection risks in the workplace and bring any concerns to designated officers and/or your line-manager.
    • Undertake other duties as may be reasonably required from time-to-time.

    Essential Skills and Experience

    *Candidates must have a strong interest in how communications and public engagement can
    achieve social change.*

    • At least three years professional experience in a digital communications role, or in the design and delivery of strong, innovative multi-channel digital communications.
    • Skilled in developing effective and engaging content in different styles and tones to reach a variety of audiences.
    • Ability to visually communicate data and reports in clear and accessible ways.
    • Experience in producing short animations for social media.
    • Knowledge of digital best practice and accessible design principles.
    • Up-to-date knowledge of the latest social media trends, platforms and best practice
    • Excellent writing, editing and proof-reading skills.
    • Ability to work independently and produce results, excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

    Desirable Skills and Experience

    • Managing Google Ads Grant for non-profits
    • Experience in:
      – desktop publishing
      – podcast and video production
      – Canva – EPIC’s primary design tool
      – Event planning and project management.
    • Experience of working in the Youth Sector or on projects that involve youth participation.
    • Knowledge of children’s rights and the Irish care system.
    • Knowledge of ethics and standards for charity communications.

    This role will be flexible in line with EPIC’s current hybrid working model – requiring some officebased work and some remote work – within the working hours of the organisation.

    It is envisaged that the post-holder will be flexible in using their own initiative to develop the role in line with the objectives and mission of EPIC. The job description attached does not define all responsibilities within the role but offers a detailed overview of the role.

    The post holder will also undertake training on Children First (Tusla e-learning programme) and abide at all times by this and by EPIC’s policies on child protection and welfare.

    Terms

    • This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), for a fixed term of 10 months.
    • There is a three-month probation period.
    • Annual leave entitlement of 25 days per annum pro rata
    • The office is closed for one day at Easter and three days at Christmas. These holiday days are additional to the annual leave entitlement.
    • Participation in the company pension scheme is matched by a 5% Employer contribution, commencing on completion of the probationary period.
    • All roles within EPIC are subject to Garda Vetting.

    Reports to: Communications Manager
